Email Marketing Campaigns
Email Marketing Campaigns are a way of directly contacting potential, or existing, customers who are likely to be interested in the products or services you have to offer.
For anyone who has never set up an email marketing campaign the thought of doing so can be quite intimidating. They believe that getting into email marketing and running email marketing campaigns is difficult and costly. This is not necessarily the case.
Anyone involved in any form of internet marketing should definitely consider building an email list as part of their overall business strategy. Selling products and services to existing list members is far easier than selling directly from a web page.
Email Marketing Campaigns Need to Be Done Correctly!
Before you can set up your first email marketing campaign there are a few things that you need to consider.
You cannot simply send out email messages to just anyone, you need to have their permission to send them information. Sending unsolicited emails to people is referred to as 'spamming'. This is not only annoying to the recipient but sending out spam emails is also actually illegal.
Email Marketing Campaigns need to be targeted. There is no point whatsoever sending out details of offers that you are promoting to people that are unlikely to be interested in the information you send them.
Before you can start any email campaign you need to build a list of people who have agreed to receive emails form you. This can be quite a daunting task for anyone who has never done it before. There are however a number of strategies that you can use to start building your list.
Email marketing Campaigns – Getting Started!
Most people will not become subscribers to your email list unless you offer some kind of inducement. The most common form of inducement is to offer something free in exchange for the email address. This means that before you even consider setting up your first email marketing campaign you need to find something that you can give away to encourage people to 'opt in' to your email list.
The most common type of giveaway is usually an ebook or report. If you are in the internet marketing niche it may even be software or a wordpress plugin that is being offered.
Whatever you decide to give away needs to fulfill two basic criteria.
First of all it has to be something that the potential subscriber feels they want or need. It also has to be something that has perceived value. The higher the perceived value the more likely someone is to 'opt in'. This does not mean that it has to be something with a high monetary value. It simply has to be something that your potential subscriber feels will be useful (or valuable) to them.
Secondly it has to be something that is downloadable (this should be obvious but nevertheless it is still worth mentioning).
Getting Your Giveaway Offer Seen
Once you have something to give away the next stage is to actually get people to your optin page. If no one sees your offer then no one will subscribe.
For the majority of people this is the most difficult part of the exercise.
There are numerous ways in which this can be achieved but here are five suggestions to get you started.
Email Marketing Campaigns – Getting Subscribers!
- If you have your own website or blog that is getting traffic you need to be putting an optin form in a prominent position on each of your pages or on the side bar. Make your offer enticing enough to get the people on your site to want to join your list and get the free offer you are promoting.
- Start a Facebook Page and create a 'call to action' button at the bottom of your Cover Photo/picture that links to an optin page on your website/blog. Make sure that you pin a post to the top of the timeline of your page that is promoting your free give away and make reference to the call to action button in your post.
If you are not already using Twitter sign up and get an account. In your Twitter profile you can add a link to your website. What a lot of people do not know is that you can add a second hyper link in your Bio which you can use to link to your giveaway optin page.
If you are not using Pinterest then you really should be doing. Using Pinterest regularly will help to drive a huge amount of traffic to your website or optin form.
Use Paid Advertising to drive traffic to your optin page. There are several places that you can place ads relatively inexpensively. Placing an advert on Facebook or Bing, for example, could give your email marketing campaigns a boost and get subscribers to your list quickly. There are of course lots of other ways to get subscribers to your email list. There are hundreds of posts on Google about the subject. It is just a matter of doing some research.
You Need an Autoresponder to Run Email Marketing Campaigns!
To run a successful email marketing campaign you will need to sign up for an autoresponder account. An autoresponder stores your email addresses and automates the process of sending emails to your list.
There are a lot of autoresponders to choose from. Several of the larger autoresponder companies either offer a free trial period or, in some cases, will let you use their services free of charge until your list reaches a certain level. This can be helpful when you are starting out and do not want to invest a lot of money.
There are also a few free autoresponders that you can sign up for (listwire is one). Generally speaking however the service offered by these free providers tends to fall short compared to the paid alternatives.
The Benefits of running Email Marketing Campaigns and Building an Email List
If you are involved in any form of online marketing you are constantly trying to get traffic to the offers you are promoting. When you have an email list you are able to promote all of your offers directly to everyone on your list. Any offers that you promote to your list should of course be in the same niche as the original free offer that attracted them in the first place
Because Email marketing campaigns are very highly targeted they usually result in a high number of sales.
Many of the top online marketers make the majority of their sales to their mailing list subscribers. I have read a number of reports about the effectiveness of email marketing. Most people who are using email marketing suggest that each person on their list is worth approximately $10.00 per annum to them. If this is the case then a list that contains only one thousand email addresses could potentially earn you in the region of ten thousand dollars a year.
Building a large email list can take some time but it is worth the effort involved. Once you have your list you have an immediate audience for your promotions that you can reach directly at the click of a button!
